These Are The Bugs You Can Prevent With Perimeter Pest Control

Thousands of homeowners across Utah have discovered the benefits of using perimeter pest control spray. This versatile service creates a protective barrier around your home or property line, halting many undesirable bugs in their tracks. Here are some of the most common household pests that Ferta-Lawn protects you from.

Bugs Affected By Perimeter Pest Control

Spiders

Few things are more disturbing than walking into a spider’s web or seeing a spider hanging in the corner. Sure, they play a vital role in controlling insect populations, but they really belong outdoors – not in your home. Like snakes, spiders are one of the top-ranking fears in humans, so it’s completely understandable why you don’t like the sight of them. Thankfully, you don’t have to put up with their presence. And some of our Utah spiders can be harmful! The bites of certain species, like the black widow, can even be fatal!

Millipedesmillipede

While millipedes aren’t as intimidating as their centipede relatives, it’s completely understandable you wouldn’t want to find one in your home. (Unless you have one as a pet, in which case, no offense!) Unfortunately, wild millipedes may travel in large groups, so you might have a whole family in your home, where they don’t belong. Millipedes are great for gardens, where they create loads of natural compost. In your home, they’re just plain annoying and creepy.

Centipedes

Of all the bugs in our homes, the common house centipede may be the creepiest. They don’t cause health problems, like cockroaches, and they don’t damage our furniture like silverfish or carpenter ants, but they have been known to bite when threatened. While this is rare, and most people will kill a centipede – not try to handle it – if you have pets or small children, they could be subjected to a bite as painful as a bee sting. You can’t explain the danger to a toddler or puppy. And centipedes are not only creepy – they’re incredibly fast when startled, which makes killing them tricky. With an insect control application, you can rest assured that any centipede that dares cross the boundary to your property will soon meet its end.

Ants

The small run-of-the-mill ants that like to build mounds near driveways sometimes find their way inside. They could be attracted by pet food, crumbs, or things left on the counter. Unfortunately, they aren’t the only ant that plagues Utah’s homes. We also have the misfortune of dealing with carpenter ants, who will burrow into wooden structures like furniture and harvest ants, producing painful bites. Ants may be great for the garden, but indoors, they can quickly infest your home and ruin the feeling of safety and security you should have.

Earwigs

Earwigs will eat your houseplants and cause a lot of distress. There’s a well-known myth that falsely asserts they will nest in your ear canal. This is not true. In fact, any bug can get in your ear accidentally, but it’s rare. Like all bugs, they are more likely to run away if you come near. That being said, their name and appearance are horrifying. The pincers on their rear end are straight out of a nightmare.

Silverfish

Named for the silvery scales that coat their exoskeleton, silverfish are found anywhere dark and dank – think basements or attics. They also frequent the backs of bookshelves and can damage the pages of books or paper documents. And they are only active at night, so you may not even realize you have a problem until it’s too late. They are rather small and will dart quickly when disturbed. Fortunately, they have no wings, so you won’t have to worry about them swarming mid-air.

Cockroachescockroach

While cockroaches don’t look as creepy as spiders or centipedes, the health problems they create make them easily the worst possible bug to have in your home. You’ve probably heard jokes about cockroaches surviving the apocalypse, and there’s some truth to that. They are great survivors. Fortunately, you can stop them before they decide to investigate your property. Once roaches are in your home, it becomes harder to eradicate them. While this isn’t something we like to think about, the reason roaches are so bad is because of their poop. As their numbers grow, so does the amount of poop, which can cause or exacerbate asthma, and many people are highly allergic to cockroaches. Furthermore, roaches are attracted to food, so you’ll most likely find them in the kitchen cupboards or near the trash can. The image of a roach near our food makes our stomach churn!

What Is Perimeter Pest Control

Your pest control technician will use specialized products to spray a barrier around the foundation of your home or property. This leaves behind a residue that will kill any bug that tries to get it. And the great thing is it continues to work long after we’ve sprayed. It even works through rainstorms! We will need to reapply several times throughout the season, but we will make sure to time these visits so you never lose coverage. You can sit back, relax, and enjoy a pest-free home.
